A Blog to Follow My Science Project at Mission Trails Regional Park

I will use this blog to keep track of my Science Fair project online.  I currently have two transects in Mission Trails Regional Park, one in the area that burned in July 2014, and one a nearby unburned area.  The habitat I am working in is Coastal Sage Scrub.  I will keep track of the amount and type of new seedlings that grow in the burned vs. the unburned area.  At home I am also doing another study which involves planting seeds of native plants such as CA Buckwheat, Artemisia, and White Sage.   I am planting these native seeds in two different soils from the park, one soil is burned and the other is unburned.  I will look germination rates and also what the seedlings look like.

I am doing my project with my mom and Ranger Axtmann from Mission Trails Regional Park.

This is me and Ranger Axtmann, and photos of my two transects.

This shows part of the area that burned. We took this on July 23rd. In the background are the arson investigators, who were out that day looking for clues.
